The 2023 Australian Wedge-Tailed Eagle silver bullion coin is a celebrated release from The Perth Mint, continuing one of the most iconic collaborations in numismatic history. Designed by John Mercanti – former Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint – this series marked the first time a U.S. Mint engraver worked with a foreign mint.
The reverse features Australia’s largest bird of prey, the majestic Wedge-Tailed Eagle, perched on a rugged branch with its wings proudly outstretched. Surrounding the image are the inscriptions “AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE,” “2023 1oz 9999 SILVER,” and the Perth Mint’s classic “P” mintmark. A micro-laser engraved letter, visible only under magnification, adds an advanced layer of security against counterfeiting.
The obverse displays the Jody Clark effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, along with the dual-year tribute “1952–2022” commemorating Her Majesty’s reign, and the denomination of 1 Dollar.
